Described by his peers as a courtly presence, this polite, unassuming gentleman from Texas managed to rack up an astonishing 52 PGA titles over a relatively short PGA career. Byron retired from golf at ripe old age of 34.

…you can probably understand how difficult it is to string together a run of ‘your best’ golf over a few rounds. Now try to imagine the record-shattering year Byron Nelson had in 1945. A record 18 PGA tournament wins out of a total of 30 he played that year, and finished second in seven of the tourneys he didn‘t win. Top it off with another record... a stretch of 11 consecutive wins at one point during his historic campaign. This spectacular year of golf for a PGA Hall of Famer may never be surpassed or equaled. In case you’re wondering, both records have yet to be seriously challenged.
