THE GREATEST YEAR EVER ON THE PGA TOUR.
Among the legends from the golden era of golf, Byron Nelson stands out to this day.
Described by his peers as a courtly presence, this polite, unassuming gentleman from Texas managed to rack up an astonishing 52 PGA titles over a relatively short PGA career. Byron retired from golf at ripe old age of 34.
As a fellow golfer…
…you can probably understand how difficult it is to string together a run of ‘your best’ golf over a few rounds. Now try to imagine the record-shattering year Byron Nelson had in 1945. A record 18 PGA tournament wins out of a total of 30 he played that year, and finished second in seven of the tourneys he didn‘t win. Top it off with another record... a stretch of 11 consecutive wins at one point during his historic campaign. This spectacular year of golf for a PGA Hall of Famer may never be surpassed or equaled. In case you’re wondering, both records have yet to be seriously challenged.
“I don't think that anyone will ever exceed the things that Byron did by winning 11 tournaments in a row in one year.”
— Arnold Palmer
